The Undertaker: Long Term Story Telling in Wrestling

i knew undertaker when i was younger and was into wrestling, but as i grew up my interest on wrestling started to fade away so yeah, and I'm surprise to know that his career continues, and he finally retires, to me he's still a legend because of how iconic he is.
I was brought here after re-watching Wrestling Isn't Wrestling and between the two videos, I REALLY regret not watching wrestling when I was younger. I never understood the appeal, but the way you and Max both tell the stories of your favorite wrestlers, it's just beautiful.
You could say the undertaker was the one piece of wrestling
Very good video. I still think breaking the streak was the wrong move, but I get the power of it.
I can’t believe I cried because of professional wrestling
I have tears in my eyes.
Why is brock so wide omg. That sword tattoo rly makes him look even bigger
"now, my time has come...to let The Undertaker....REST IN PEACE" -Mark "The Undertaker" Calaway
Knox country.
1:52 Holy shit
When we talk about gimmicks we need to talk about orange cassidy a wrestler who is to lazy to wrestle and just doesn't care about anything , weird right ? And for some reason this got over with the fan he is now one of top stars of aew and one of my favourite wrestler right now
15:33 The hell is getting mauled like that and who’s doing the mauling?
In one last ride, he made it that you need a sequel!
I'm not even in to wrestling as much as I use to be as a kid, even I know about the Undertaker...
I never got professional wrestling until I watched your series of videos on it. It was always explained to me as a sport-which it is, I’m not saying it’s not-where the outcome was predetermined. People fought and won or lost not due to their ability, but because of shady deals. I knew there were stories, but I didn’t see them. I saw matches. Watching this video, and especially the one you made about heels, has changed my mind. I understand now the power that comes with this kind of storytelling and why it and the people who perform it are beloved by so many people. I don’t think I’ll ever truly be a fan-I have a really hard time sitting down and watching stories-but I will hold a respect and appreciation for it.
You remind why i liked wrestling
Taker was always a top 5 fav growing up, before I stopped watching. As an adult who rarely watches, he slowly made his way to #1 for me. My first WWF PPV was the inferno match between Undertaker and his "brother" Kane (such a fun story). There was so much going on and so much to catch up on but I was there for it. Probably my all time favorite PPV at the time. (Also the 3v3 tag match opening the PPV was fantastic)
Its an art.
Undertaker pulling a wedgie on John Cena is my favorite scene in this video
I never watched wrestling since here in Argentina it wasn't never a big thing, but tv played some matches on the weekends in just one channel (that I don't even remember the name of) and I did pick one once were the Undertaker appeared and I remember thinking as a child "what the f**** is that thing?" xd and then I watched some more just to see if that dude appeared again :3 This is a great video, I can tell the love you have for wrestling even if I just started following your channel for the manga/anime vids :3
The real shit thing that he returned
God, I remember the last day I watched wrestling. This was it, the last match. I full-blown sobbed, even though it was the first time in years that I had watched. I still miss the Undertaker
Damm dude you had me crying over this shit
There was no one other than Brock that could take the streak, he's legitimate, Tho i am against it being broke, this should have been his only WM loss.
Impressive!!~!
15:35 name?
Chyna bro, she died though
this guy is the living reason for me to separate the art from the artist.
We need an epilogue episode of this video.
CM Punk should've ended The Streak at WM29 or Roman Reigns should've turned heel after WM33.
Why does this put me in an enlightened mood even after watching this 4 times
Great fucking job brother!! OLD SKOOL!!!!
24:24 His face though... Have you ever seen such a face on someone who just won a match... ... let alone a mofoing Wrestle Mania match!!?? I've been out of touch for a while now...(sometime just before the XFL....ya, remember that epic endeavor!?) So I don't know who that man is....but I hope he's half as decent as he seems... Reminds me of when Trump won the presidency...mofo didn't even write an acceptance speech...lulz
I've never been a wrestling fan, but my best friend is. He sent me this video when I was trying to understand his love for it. I think I do see now, and I have much more respect for the whole thing. Of course, even I was impressed by the times I saw the Undertaker striding in or on a commercial when I was hanging out with him. Stories are invaluable, and it is less important the medium than that it be a well told story. It seems the Undertaker's truly was. Thanks for the thought and eloquence of this video, I really appreciate this work.
More wrestling videos please!
more research would benefit this video
Sick with COVID I came across your channel by accident and I have to say, I love how you compose your videos. Thank you for keeping me entertained
Lmao I went to school with the daughter of the mantaur and she got made of a lot for it
Now sadly Wrestlemania 33s ending means nothing
I hate Brock Lesnar. It’s as simple as that.
If the undertaker not lose figth brock lesnar. And he finish his journey to 22-1 i will more agree about it.
He went on Joe Rogan recently. So if you want to know more about him, just listen go it.
You made me want to get into pro wrestling dang it
As a fan of Kane, the most striking moment that shows The Undertaker's acting skills - the ability to sell - is when Kane debuted in 1997 at Bad Blood. The normally unshakeable Undertaker, who never sells, is awestruck and shocked at the sight of this masked giant, his kayfabe brother. The Undertaker truly is a legend!
"Men and women consumed by their own demons." and then the video inserts Chyna and Chris Benoit, among others who also got consumed by addiction and depression. 😔
i thought he was mr.x from resident evil
Man, even if this is my 3rd time watching this video, it hits different after watching The Last Ride Documentary and the Survivor Series 30 year commemoration of the Undertaker. Thank You Taker
Mark callaway is an absolute badass
Did you say his career started in 1991? I was 16,fuck I'm old
Wow! Dude. Nice. Excellent execution of the material. Im not a wrestling fan by far but the story you just told was just friggin amazing.
Fuck me, he was a beast in his 50's. There might be something supernatural about him afterall
i miss the 90s
Beautiful my friend. Just beautiful. Keep up the amazing work.
I enjoyed it a lot but yeah, you sound like a crazy person to me :D
regardless of wrestling... there are stories, there are legends, there are endings, and there are legacies. and for all of the above, there is respect.
Naito reminds me of how Rocky Maivia became the Corporate Rock.
#thankyoutaker you are a legend
You’re videos on this subject are really interesting and I never would’ve known any of these stories without you so I thank you for all the hard work and effort you put into these videos
10:35 I'm telling my kids these two were Unus and Annus
The wet beef accidentally work because printer bareilly prefer until a uninterested command. acceptable, substantial notebook
Come on man, i dont let you speak ill of the LEGENDARY Undertaker VS Undertaker feud! It was so good, why didnt people buy it!? It was like a real life Street Fighter Mirror match, complete with Palette swap dish washing gloves!
Naito is probably my favorite wrestler for right now. I really like him, and his storyline with Evil is really good
Holy shit. Taker is just the real life Kanoh Agito from Kengan
how we gonna talk about triple H and taker but not michaels and taker??
Holy crap these videos are amazing. I didn’t even care about wrestling but I’ve got chills.
even tho I lost connection with WWE after watching it from kindergarten to grade 3... I always loved the Undertaker and John Cena, hell, used to think undertaker was real :(
theres no storytelling in njpw or aew matches
Who else is re-watching 'cause of the JRE interview? Calaway's a good story-teller and likable dude.
ah...I remember the day I quit watching WWE. Hurts everytime.
Yeah, you just earned a subscription with this one. You're an amazing story teller and genuinely just brought a tear to my eye with this one. Haven't really followed wrestling anymore in years, but I do remember watching a lot when I was younger and undertaker was definitely one of my favorites characters.
I dont watch wwe but I love the dead man.
I've never watched a single wrestling match, but nonetheless, thank you for this video. An amazing homage to an amazing artist.
Don bas ist eine Frucht
Ich lebe in Niedersachsen
Donbaz
Nah the Story is we fuck all Chernobyl he is bljat sonst vogeln
Well I guess undertaker really retired in 2020
Lol Triple heych.
I always saw wwe as just a really masculine pantomime
And, once again, I'm crying tears of both joy and sadness You're such a great story-teller that someone like me, who's young and barely has known anything but video games, understand years of wrestling and stories and make me feel nearly the same pain as real fans did at the time Thank you for all of your videos man
He is the god of WWE,but even gods can fall,Taker fell, and i think it is best for him,he deserves a rest
Paul Bearer still scares me.
"The yeti"
no one gives you credit for your fire music selection. Danger is so fucking underrated.
surprise he did mention kane
I come back to this video after summerslam 2020, The deadman is retired, Sure he’ll definitely come back, but it’s difficult to come back as “The undertaker” after his legacy, I can’t believe how much he has impacted so many people’s lives. Thank You Taker.
I’m not crying, you’re crying
I literally feared the undertaker as a child, ngl one of the best gimmicks
@SuperEyePatchWolf, we need something on Brodie Lee.
Honestly I think undertaker should have retired at wm33.
As a life-long fan of The Undertaker, thank you for this!
You didn't have a childhood if you didn't grow up believing The Undertaker was a real life zombie...
I used to watch, and follow closely. In my time Mankind wrote a book, The Undertaker had a brother named Kane, and they buried Steve Austin. What a time.
Kane was my favorite 😁
He has and always will be my favourite wrestler and it broke my heart when the streak was broke Also whyd I cry after this video ended lmao
And remember, guys: He never lost in his prime at Wrestlemania.
Brilliant 👏
I remember mi grandfather and i and mi grandmother, "maria" rest in peace i was a kid seeing these episodes with them. We alwais jumpd of our chairs seeing the undertaker almost lose then she died of sofocade bc she had cancer and needed oxigen to breathe we count afort it and she died after that pases mi grandfather is and was depresed and i cound look at a wwe match again bc i dint see it whit them after i came back seeing it by accident i get recomended this video made my cry man seeing this hero Undertaker not fight i made a see of tears no one will see this but GRANDMA I LOVE YOU THIS TEARS ARE FOR YOU AND THE UNDERTAKER WILL ALWAIS BE IN MY HEART. Thanks if you read this (and sorry for mi errors in spelling im hispanic
Sooo, you’re right about wrestling taking place in real time....with one exception: the “cinematic matches” technically AREN’T real time, as they’re pre-recorded, right? (Then again, I suppose you could technically call them “short films” that just so happen to depict “wrestling matches” and are presented in the context of programming that otherwise operates in real time, so...perhaps you’re still right.)
If ever there needed to be a react video to this it need to be mark reacting to this and giving his take on it. Because man this video I've watched so many times already 12th time and counting.
I already knew undertakers story and almost everything in this video but the way you narrated it kept me engaged and even gave me chills when discussing the HHH match
I can’t believe Taker is done. He always felt immortal, always showing up no mater what. But now he is just done with a whole big goodbye show. He was the best thing wwe ever had and now he is gone.
